Disruption on roads after car hit traffic lights at busy Hamilton junction

A car crashed into traffic lights at a busy junction in Hamilton this morning (Monday, November 11).

The collision took place at around 9.45am outside the Academical Vaults on Burnbank Road.

And the elderly male driver was taken to the University Hospital Hairmyres for treatment.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were called to the collision at around 9.45am outside the Academical Vaults.

“The traffic lights were disrupted following the incident and the driver was taken to hospital for treatment.”

Gordon MacKay, head of Roads and Transportation at South Lanarkshire Council, said: “Following a telephone call from Police Scotland advising us of a road-traffic collision at the Burnbank Road/Clydesdale Street/Peacock Way junction, the traffic signals were found to be damaged but still operating.

“Repairs are due to be carried out tomorrow (Tuesday, November 12).”
