Disruption on Merseyrail as fire leads to station closure

Trains are unable to stop at a Wirral rail station this morning following a fire.

Conway Park - in Birkenhead - is currently shut following the incident, which is causing disruption on the New Brighton and West Kirby lanes.

Services are still able to pass through the station, but trains are unable to stop.

A rail replacement bus service is in operation as a result.

Advising passengers this morning, Merseyrail wrote on Twitter: "Due to a fire overnight at the station, Conway Park station is closed until further notice.

"Trains can still pass through the station but are unable to stop.

"A replacement bus service is running between the station and Hamilton Square/ Birkenhead Park/Birkenhead North."

The organisation also posted: "Trains on our New Brighton and West Kirby lines are still running throughout but will not call at Conway Park."

The disruption is expected to continue until midday.
