Disruption at Glasgow Central Station after damage to overhead wires

Rail commuters are facing disruption at Glasgow Central Station this morning following damage to overhead wires.

The damage occurred between Barassie and Ayr, leading to the route between Glasgow Central and Ayr being cancelled in both directions.

Each of the terminated services will begin at Kilwinning, with replacement buses between Ayr and Kilwinning put in place.

Repairs have begun on the wires, but ScotRail have confirmed they are unable to say when the works will be completed.

A statement from ScotRail reads: "There is extensive damage to the overhead wires between Barassie and Ayr. Staff are on site and have begun repairs, but due to the extent of the damage they are unable to give us a firm estimate of completion.

"Disruption is now expected to continue through the morning peak. As work progresses we'll liaise with staff on site to get an estimate and keep you posted.

"Currently there are no train services operating between Ayr and Kilwinning."
