Disqualified motorbike rider clocked at 200kms in 80 zone

Police detected a Yamaha R3 motorcycle travelling 160km/h in an 80km/h zone.

A DISQUALIFIED motorbike rider has been charged after he was allegedly detected travelling more than double the speed limit near Nelson Bay.

About 10.40pm Monday officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducing speed enforcement duties on Nelson Bay Road at Bob's Farm, when they detected a Yamaha R3 motorcycle travelling 160km/h in an 80km/h zone.

It will be alleged that when police went to pull the rider over, the motorcycle rider increased his speed to 200km/h, before stopping near Cromarty Lane.

The rider, a 19-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Nelson Bay police station, where he was charged with drive whilst disqualified, driving in a manner dangerous and exceed speed by more than 45km/h.

The Medowie man has been granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday November 30.
