RAIPUR: A sedition case has been filed against suspended additional director general of police (ADGP) Gurjinder Pal Singh, a 1994 batch IPS officer, in Chhattisgarh.
The case has been filed a week after anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) raided his residence and 15 other premises and seized alleged disproportionate assets.
Police in the state capital filed an FIR at Raipur Kotwali police station around midnight on Thursday under IPC sections 124 A for sedition and 153 A for promoting enmity between different groups and doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony.
However, police did not disclose details in the first information report (FIR), citing it as a “sensitive case”.
There are indications that anti-corruption bureau (ACB), during its recent raids at his premises and 15 other places, had seized certain documents and the police were also planning to probe matters connected to the surrender of a Maoist during the IPS officer’s tenure as inspector general of police (Durg range).
The ACB had raided ADGP Gurjinder Pal Singh’s premises and 15 other places, including in the neighboring state of Odisha, on July 1.
Later on July 6, the ADGP was suspended citing that he seemed to be involved in activities not expected of him and his acts were in violation of All India Services (Conduct) rules.
The ACB search went on for three days and anti-corruption sleuths reportedly found disproportionate assets, including movable and immovable properties, to the tune of more than Rs 10 crore.
Subsequently, cases were filed against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
