Dispersal order in place in Long Eaton after 'racing and speeding' reported during large car meet

Police put a dispersal order in place in Long Eaton after a large car meet.

There were reports of cars gathering in car parks across the town with some "speeding and racing", according to police.

The dispersal order, which covers Long Eaton and nearby Sawley, is in place as of Monday, May 10 and will come into effect for several days.

There is also a dispersal order covering the whole of Markeaton Park in Derby.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said: "Members of the public have been reporting vast numbers of vehicles meeting in car parks across Long Eaton, with some travelling to Derby.

"While many are motoring enthusiasts, there have also been several reports of some of them driving anti-socially, speeding and racing.

"A dispersal order covering Sawley and Long Eaton is now in effect, along with a second covering the whole of Markeaton Park in Derby, and all of Darley Abbey. Both are in effect for several days.

"It gives officers additional powers to tackle anti-social behaviour, such as allowing them to move groups on if they suspect such behaviour is likely to occur. They can also impose short-term bans on individuals returning to a specified area."

It comes after police were called to a car meet at a Tesco Extra in Beeston last week, with around 50 cars gathering there.
