Dispatch, one of the best narrative-driven games I've ever played, is on track to meet its three-year sales targets in three months, according to a new report. The Telltale-style game is a breathtaking experience through and through, and its success might prompt a second season, which it so desperately needs.
As per GamesIndustryBiz, Dispatch could hit its three-year sales target in three months as the game continues to enjoy unprecedented attention and fan response. Released episodically, the title is seeing consistently good numbers on Steam, with over 100,000 players during its peak.
Dispatch is very much like the games produced by Telltale, whose former members largely make up AdHoc Studio, and it has filled the void left by Telltale's sudden shutdown in 2018.
However, the game's narrative and story meander this way and that, which led me to give it an 8.5 in favor of a greater score, even if its many parts do deserve a higher grade. The lack of proper pacing and a conclusive plan as to where the narrative is to be taken and how much time is to be allotted to every segment tremendously (and detrimentally) impacts the overall structure of the story, which is, on a smaller scale, almost perfect otherwise.

A second season, then, is almost mandatory. It would flesh out the cast that has now been set up so well for us, especially when it comes to their interpersonal relationships and romantic choices (something the player is heavily inclined towards, but never given the full experience). Of course, the broader narrative involving the super villain Shroud (and what could be offshoots of his crime syndicate) could also be expanded upon, as the game itself dwells too little on this whole ordeal.
And now that we've been given a snippet of the game's financial performance, that could become a reality.
AdHoc Studio now stands at a crossroads, deciding whether to pursue a new venture with its hard-earned capital or go after more Dispatch. And though I'm unfamiliar with their thought process, I certainly hope they see how we, the fans, have reacted to the game and give us more.
Because, frankly, the game should've had more to begin with, and it'd be a cherry on top to get another season of stellar performances, peak writing, and a take on the superhero genre that does not feel washed out or overdone, unlike some other similar IPs.
I'm super excited to see where Dispatch goes next, and, of course, more than happy for the team that has poured its heart and soul into creating what could be remembered as one of the greatest storytelling feats in gaming history.
