Disneyland Paris worker tests positive for coronavirus

A staff member at Disneyland Paris has tested positive for coronavirus , according to a spokesperson for the theme park.

The employee, understood to be a park maintenance worker, is believed to have been diagnosed with COVID-19 over the weekend.

But park bosses confirmed the family resort will remain open to visitors despite the positive diagnosis, Wales Online reports.

A spokesperson for Disneyland Paris said the affected worker did not come into contact with guests.

It is believed the resort is now checking on colleagues who have been in recent contact with the affected staff member.

Three of Disney's other theme parks have already closed - Shanghai Disney, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Tokyo Disneyland.

While the Paris resort plans to stay open, France has taken measures to prevent the spread of the virus by banning large gatherings of over 5,000.

French authorities say nearly 300 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the country to far.

The number of confirmed cases of the virus in the UK has now reached 278, with more than 23,500 people tested.

Last night it was confirmed a third person in the UK who tested positive for the illness has died - with a fourth confirmed case in Liverpool.

The latest Liverpool case is a known contact of an existing patient and is receiving specialist treatment.

On Sunday night, Liverpool City Council tweeted: "One more case of #Coronavirus has now been confirmed in #Liverpool, bringing the total to four.

"The individual is a known contact of an existing patient and is receiving specialist treatment."

Public Health England (PHE), Liverpool City Council and the local NHS are working closely together to effectively manage all the cases.

PHE is currently contacting people who may have had close contact with the confirmed cases.

Close contacts will be given health advice about symptoms and emergency contact details to use if they become unwell in the 14 days after they had contact with the confirmed cases.
