Disney World mum in tears after awkward interaction with performer dressed up as villain

A performer who worked at Disney World in Florida has gone viral after sharing details on an exchange which left a mum in tears.

Melanie posted a video on TikTok in which she recalls a day on which she was dressed up as villain Drizella, one of the stepsisters from Cinderella.

The incident had occurred after she was unsure whether to sign a woman's autograph book.

As reported by The Mirror, she said: “I was working the Grand Floridian dinner and I walked up to this table, and it was a family of like, two parents and their adult children.

“If you haven’t been to a character meal before, people that like to have the Disney characters sign autographs will put the books at the end of the table so we can walk up and pick them up and start signing them right away.

“So I’m signing these books, and I realise there’s another book at the end of the table.

"So I pointed at it and actually just innocently said, ‘Oh is that book already full?’

“The mum says, ‘That book is for princess only to sign’.”

Melanie decided to continue the conversation in character as Drizella, and picked up the book to sign it anyway.

However, she stated in the video that she was moving slowly so as to give the woman enough time to say something if she truly didn't want Drizella's autograph in the book.

Melanie continued in the video: "So now, of course, I’m making a huge deal out of it, and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is going to be so embarrassing for you, what happens when I’m a princess later and I marry a prince and you didn’t have me sign the princess book?’

“Her whole family is cracking up, she’s looking a little sassy, and I’m like – slowly, to give her time – I’m reaching across the table and I snatch the book up.

“Again, at literally any point, this woman could have said, ‘No seriously, don’t sign that one’, and I would have just dropped it.”

Melanie eventually signed the book, but not before noticing other non-Princess Disney characters had already put pen to paper on the pages, including Aladdin.

After inking her character’s autograph, Melanie gave the book back and carried on with her job – until she noticed the mum in tears.

She said: “I take my pen and open to a blank page which had nothing else around it, so she could have ripped it out. I sign the book, put it back on the table, and walk away.

"Job well done.

“Until I’m a few tables away and I just got this weird feeling.

"And I look over and there she is, she’s just crying and looking at me.

“I’m just stunned and have no idea what to do because I had never even come close to making someone cry.

"Even as far as stepsisters at Disney World go, I was pretty tame.”

Melanie ended her video by reaching out to the unnamed woman in the hopes she has recovered from their interaction.

She added: “I still think about that lady to this day. I hope she got over it.”

Melanie’s TikTok has received over 2 million likes, with opinions divided over whether signing the book was a good idea or not.

One commenter wrote: “She told you to not touch her property and you did .. Maybe you should've read the situation better.”

But another disagreed and said: “Not a true Disney adult then! Because that interaction should have been her FAVE! You seriously NAILED that character!”
