Disney has announced plans to ramp up production of Marvel and Star Wars series on its streaming service, Disney+.

On Wednesday's (10 December) Disney Investor Day livestream presentation, Kareem Daniel, Chairman, Media and Entertainment Distribution for The Walt Disney Company said that the company planned to launch "roughly" 10 Marvel series, 10 Star Wars series, and 15 live-action, animation, and Pixar series over the next few years.

"With these Disney+ originals, along with theatrical releases and library titles, we will be adding something new to the service every week," Daniel said.

The presentation also revealed that there would be two The Mandalorian spin-offs coming, Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka, starting Christmas 2021.

And there are more Star Wars series where that came from: Andor (starring Diego Luna as the character he played in 2016's Rogue One) and Obi Wan Kenobi featuring Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Darth Vader.

There will also be franchise spin-offs about Lando Calrissian (Lando), plus The Acolyte, which, according to Disney, is “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

Additional Star Wars animated series, The Bad Batch and A Droid Story, are also forthcoming. And to top things off, Disney+ will host a series of short films called “Star Wars Visions.”

The presentation did not specify what shows and movies viewers can expect on the Marvel side. At the moment, WandaVision starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany is set for release in January of 2021, and other originals (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki) will follow.
