Disney to remake classic Robin Hood animation as CGI film

Nottingham's most famous outlaw has been given the big screen treatment numerous times over the decades -  some with more success than others.

But rather than a fresh interpretation of the Robin Hood story, Disney is going back to one its classic animations and giving it a reboot.

The 1973 feature length Robin Hood film. which saw our hero as a fox, will be the latest to get the live action treatment following The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo and Aladdin.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will be a musical and will use the live-action/CGI format.

No cast has been announced as filming is yet to begin. The screenplay is being written by Kari Granlund, who crafted Disney's 2019 remake of The Lady and the Tramp.

Music video director Carlos Lopez Estrada (Billie Eilish, George Ezra, Carly Rae Jepsen) will be behind the camera. He is probably best known for his 2018 crime film Blindspotting.

Other live action films in the pipeline for the studio include Mulan, Cruella and The Little Mermaid.

Robin Hood will be made for the new Disney Plus streaming service.
