Welsh theatre's much-anticipated return after the coronavirus pandemic has been kick-started today as the Wales Millennium Centre announces details of its big Christmas 2021 production.
Following successes such as Les Miserables and Shrek in previous years, Disney’s beloved Olivier Award-winning stage musical Beauty and the Beast is set to hit Wales this Christmas.
Performances are intended to begin at Wales Millennium Centre December 9, 2021 through until January 15, 2022.
Public booking will open on March 31 and full casting will be announced soon.
The Phantom of the Opera was due to be held at the centre in December 2020 but the run was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The summer staging of The Lion King at the WMC has also been postponed for two years and is now to be performed from Thursday, July 7 to Saturday, August 27, 2022.
Beauty and the Beast tells the tale of how an arrogant prince is cursed to live as a terrifying beast until he finds true love.
Strangely, his chance comes when he captures a local clockmaker, whose place is then taken by his bold and beautiful daughter Belle.
Helped by the Beast's enchanted servants, including a clock, a teapot and a candelabra, Belle begins to see the sensitive soul behind the fearsome figure.
The 'tale as old as time' musical originally debuted on London's West End in 1997, following on from a hit Disney film released in 1991.
The original movie was adapted as a higely successful live action remake in 2017 starring Welsh star Luke Evans.
