Disney Magic cruise ship brings a touch of magic as it calls at Port of Tyne in North Shields

The Disney Magic cruise ship docked at Port of Tyne in North Shields today ahead of a staycation cruise.

The 875-state room ship will embark on a three-day Disney Magic at Sea 'staycation' cruise when it leaves Newcastle's port at 8pm on Friday, September 3.

The ship is due back in North Shields on Monday, September 6, Wednesday, September 8 and Saturday, September 11.

Kate O’Hara, Commercial Director at the Port of Tyne, said: “It is an absolute pleasure to have the Disney Magic back at the Port of Tyne and to see so many passengers enjoying the experience of cruising from North Shields again.

"Following a difficult year in 2020, we have enjoyed a very successful cruise season so far, and we look forward to that continuing with the upcoming calls from all the cruise lines.

"Cruise has a significant impact on our local economy and tourism industry and we are delighted to see it returning to growth.”

The Port of Tyne celebrated Disney Magic’s first visit of the season with a tug water cannon display on her arrival on Friday morning, and the ship announced its presence with a rendition of Wish Upon a Star.

Family-orientated Disney Magic cruises feature theatres, restaurants, boutiques, waterslides, kids' clubs and a spar, as well as Disney characters onboard.

Besides North Shields - or Newcastle as the North East leg is described - there will be sailings from London Tilbury, Liverpool and Southampton - and passengers will remain on board the ship throughout the round-trips.
