Disney is launching UK cruises for summer with live shows and character appearances

Brits can't get to the Disney parks right now due to travel restrictions, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a touch of Disney magic this summer!

In fact, Disney Cruise Line has just revealed plans for a number of short 'staycation' sailings for Brits this summer - complete with live shows, fun events and those all-important character meet and greets.

We're talking appearances from Mickey and Minnie, Frozen's Anna, Olaf and Elsa, as well as the Disney princesses and Marvel superheroes, as well as live shows and fun surprises.

The sailings will be on board cruise ship Disney Magic which boasts heaps of amenities including pools, waterslides, plenty of dining options, as well as some adult-only areas including a secluded pool and spa.

Not too much has been revealed about the itineraries although we know there will be two-to-four night sailings round trip from London Tilbury, Newcastle, Liverpool and Southampton.

It's worth noting that guests will be staying onboard the cruise ship for the entirety of the sailing.

Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney Cruise Line, said: "Our teams are bringing tremendous ingenuity and fun to these new cruises, tailoring them with care to the times we are living in, yet filling them with everything you’d expect from Disney, from great service and entertainment to immersive dining experiences and magic for the whole family."

The sailings are set to go on sale in April 2021, depending on the UK government's update on travel which is due the same month.

Currently it's hoped that domestic cruises could resume from May 17 under England's lockdown roadmap.

The cruise line says that it will implement a number of health and safety measures for passengers including COVID-19 testing, health screenings, face coverings, reduced guest capacity, physical distancing and enhanced cleaning.

Usually Disney Cruise Line operates predominantly from the USA, but there is a currently a no sail order in the US which is due to last until the end of October.

It has historically offered a small number of sailings from the UK - and in fact, it's already unveiled a number of glamorous itineraries from Dover for summer 2022 to the likes of Northern Europe and the Norwegian Fjords.
