Disney ice cream comes to Gateshead bakery loved by Geordie Shore stars

Disney fans are set to flock to a Team Valley bakery as it becomes the first in the North East to serve up a coveted snack from the US theme park.

The frozen treat called Pineapple Dole soft serve, known as the Dole Whip, has been exclusively served at Disneyland and Walt Disney World since the 80s. In that time it is said to have gathered a 'cult following' of fans who can't get enough of the type of ice cream which is dairy-free, vegan, and gluten-free.

Few places in the UK offer the Pineapple Dole soft serve, but now Cookie Freaks bakery in Gateshead is offering the dessert.

Macy Donoghue and dad Kieron Donoghue, who run the business, are huge Disney fans and are delighted to be bringing the treat to the UK.

"Me and my daughter Macy have been going to Disneyland since she was eight or nine years old and the pineapple dole is a big thing in the Disney parks," Kieron said of the ice cream.

"It is very much associated with Disney and Florida because you can't really get it over here in the UK. It has a really big cult following - people go crazy for it!

"We thought it would be great if we could get some imported and get permission to sell it over here, which we did and it is fantastic.

"We have had a really good response on social media. A lot of people love Disney and love this treat in particular and now they will be able to get it without flying over to Florida."

Cookie Freaks, which launched on the trading estate two years ago, has gained a number of celebrity customers, with Geordie Shore stars like Charlotte Crosby, Abbie Holborn and Natalie Phillips raving about their cookie pies on social media.

And the Disney ice cream has already been a hit with customers since it arrived at the bakery. The ice cream is on sale for £4 per cup.

"People are excited because they saw it on social media and said they can't believe that they don't have to go to Disney for it," Kieron said.

"They can get it around the corner, so it's amazing."
