Disney fanatic wins prize that's literally out of this world

A Disney fanatic scooped a 'mind-blowing' prize straight from space.

To celebrate the release of Disney and Pixar's new film, Lightyear, the team launched a toy robot from the film, Sox, into space. The toy was launched from the Peak District, rocketing through the air at speeds of up to 250mph.

Images shot in 4K images on a space-bound camera show Sox ascending beyond the Earth’s atmosphere and into outer space, before being parachuted safely back down to earth. People all over the UK were then given the chance to win the toy from Showcase Cinemas.

Hannah Sergeant, 23, a maths and physics graduate from Fazakerley, managed to add the history-making toy to her collection of memorabilia. Hannah first got into Disney as a young girl and has been hooked ever since.

Sox is now part of Hannah’s brilliant Disney collection, which also includes teddies, snow globes, Funko Pop Vinyl figures, clothing and lots more.

Hannah said: "I’ve been going to the Showcase Cinema in Liverpool since I was a child, so when I saw this competition on Facebook I had to enter because I’m such a big Disney fan. I can’t believe that I’ve actually won.

"To own a Disney toy that has literally flown through space is mind-blowing – I’m so happy and feel really grateful. Sox has definitely found his forever home with me.

"He’s cuddled up safe and sound with all my other toys – and he’s not going back up to space anytime soon! I’m heading to Disneyland Paris for my birthday this year, so will definitely be bringing Sox along to join in on the fun."

Mark Barlow, UK General Manager of Showcase Cinemas, said: “The new Lightyear film has proven to be a real fan favourite, following the iconic character that has become much-loved by families across the world. To celebrate this, we wanted to do something ‘out of this world’, so what better way than sending the toy version of Sox to infinity and beyond?

"We have so many amazing customers that we thought it would be a nice idea to run a competition for someone to win Sox, and in Hannah I think we’ve found the perfect home."
