Disney+ ends seven-day free trial, just before the release of Hamilton and Frozen 2

Disney+ has ended its seven-day free trial, just before Hamilton and Frozen 2 are due to arrive on the platform.

The streaming site initially launched in the UK in March, with customers able to access a week of subscription for free. Now the option is now being scrapped ahead of the high-profile new releases.

A recording of Broadway hit Hamilton is set to arrive on the platform on July 3, with Disney sequel Frozen 2 also coming available on the same day. The original documentary series The Unknown: Making Frozen 2 will follow, arriving on the service later this month.

A spokesperson for the company told Variety: “We continue to test and evaluate different marketing, offers and promotions to grow Disney Plus.”

They added: “The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own.”

The Hamilton film consists of a live performance of the show featuring the original cast, filmed over three nights on Broadway back in 2016.

The film was originally due to open in 2021, but has been brought forward for fans to watch during lockdown. Frozen 2, meanwhile, was released in the UK back in November.
