Disney+ confirms release date for Star Wars: Ahsoka

Disney+ has confirmed the release date and teased a new clip of its latest Star Wars series, Ahsoka.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Lucasfilm's Star Wars: Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. Rosario Dawson stars in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla and Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll.

Ahsoka was first introduced in the 2008 The Clone Wars film and subsequent TV series, played by Ashley Eckstein. She was a teen apprentice to Anakin Skywalker and has been on quite the journey since.

From witnessing her master turn to the Dark Side, to aiding the Rebellion against The Empire, Ahsoka has also featured in the Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, this time portrayed by Rosario.

Now, she will star in her very own mini-series. Also joining the cast is Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth and David Tennant as Huyang. Lars Mikkelsen plays Grand Admiral Thrawn and Eman Esfandi is appearing as Ezra Bridger.

The new series will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday August 23. It will consist of eight episodes, predicted to be around 45 minutes each.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Rosario said of her character Ahsoka: "I love that she is this wanderer character who is going to just do good in the universe. The Jedi Order has disappeared in many ways, it's so fractured, and so many people are targeted.

"Since the very beginning, the way that has been pulling her is to be vigilant, and to be brave, and to be wise, and to always have her eye set on rooting out evil." She added: "And I think that's one of the reasons why so many love her. It's why I love her. She represents truly the best of the Jedi, you know?"

The series is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. The Mandalorian's Karen Gilchrist is co-executive producer.
