Disney are making a Beauty and the Beast prequel TV show

After charming audiences and critics alike, Disney's 2017 live-action version of Beauty and the Beast captured the magic of what made the original so beloved.

However, as fans celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1991 classic, Disney+ has announced a new eight-episode musical series that will be a prequel to the 2017 live-action film.

The new show will see Luke Evans (Gaston) and Josh Gad (LeFou") reprising their roles, while Briana Middleton ("The Tender Bar") is introduced as Louie's stepsister, Tilly.

Production will begin in spring 2022 and in terms of the plot, the show will be set before the Beast and Belle's epic romance.

The series will follow Gaston and LeFou as they set off with LeFou's stepsister, Tilly, after a surprising revelation from her past comes to light, sending the unlikely trio off on an unexpected journey filled with romance, comedy, and adventure.

While the mysteries of the past are uncovered and the dangers of the present grow, old friends and new enemies reveal that this familiar kingdom harbours many secrets.

The new Beauty and the Beast show is developed, executive-produced and written by Gad, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Once Upon a Time), each serving as a co-showrunner.

The project will also feature an original soundtrack from the EGOT Award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyrics for the first episode will be by Oscar-nominee Glenn Slater (Tangled).
