Disney and Pixar have announced a brand new movie coming to cinemas next year, Luca

Not all is as it seems though – Luca also happens to be sea monster from another world, keeping his real identity hidden from those around him.

The two powerhouses of animation are currently working on a new project ready for a release date of June 18, 2021.

The studios announced the news via Twitter, writing: “Just Announced: Disney and Pixar’s all-new film Luca. Directed by Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren, the film will introduce a boy named Luca as he experiences an unforgettable summer in a seaside town on the Italian Riviera.”

“Luca opens in theaters summer 2021. [sic]”

The film marks the directing debut of Enrico Casarosa, who previously worked as a storyboard artist on films like Ratatouille and Up.

The industry is in flux at the moment following the coronavirus outbreak, and there have been a number of Disney and Pixar projects pushed back as a result.

Mulan has been temporarily pulled from release calendars, while Pixar have been forced to move new film Soul back to November.
