Dismay as Perth Racecourse lawn is vandalised

Organisers at Perth Racecourse have condemned the “mindless” vandalism to a lawn on their premises.

The new season of racing got underway at Perth Racecourse at the end of last month with the opening day of the Perth Festival.

However, in build -up to next week’s Ladies Day, a section of non-racing lawn around the winner’s enclosure has been damaged, with the incident being reported to the police.

A spokesperson for the racecourse said: “Following a fantastic Perth Festival and while heading towards next week’s sold-out Ladies Day, Perth Racecourse is disappointed to confirm that it has reported to police what appears to be a mindless act of vandalism within the enclosures of the venue.

“This has resulted in non-racing lawned areas around the winner’s enclosure, parade ring and near to hospitality boxes being damaged beyond repair – our talented team of grounds staff are working hard to address this, on top of their normal workloads.

“We won’t let this distract from a superb start to the 2019 season and thank all race-goers for their tremendous support, however we wished to make visitors aware of this as parts of the damage are likely to still be visible next week.

“It’s important to re-emphasise that this is purely a presentational issue.

“The matter is now in the hands of police who we also thank for their swift action and advice.”
