Disha, Komal take Vidarbha to 1st-ever T20 semis

NAGPUR: Brilliant efforts from skipper Disha Kasat and former skipper Komal Zanzad saw Vidarbha storming into semifinals of the senior women's T20 Trophy for the first time on Tuesday.

Komal (4-0-9-2) delivered when it mattered the most after opting to field. The left-arm pacer's effort stalled the rivals to just 112 for 5, which was easily knocked off by Vidarbha. They rode on Disha's unbeaten 53 to record 7-wicket win with 10 balls to spare in Bengaluru.

One of the country's senior-most left-arm pacer, Komal, who had taken 4 for 4 in the last match against Chandigarh, removed Maharashtra's mainstay wicketkeeper Shivali Shinde in the very first over and forced a panic in the Maharashtra dug-out.

The rivals literally choked and were 5 down for 14 in the first 5 overs. Later, Vidarbha rode on spinners who stopped Maharashtra from playing any big shot.

In reply, No.3 Disha, who on Tuesday became the highest run-getter in the tournament with 287 runs, led by example. She struck 6 boundaries and was involved in 54 runs stand with Prangini Chauhan for the second wicket. She also accumulated 31 with Bharti Fulmali and 23* with Latika Inamdar to seal the deal.

BRIEF SCORES

Maharashtra 112 for 5 in 20 overs (T Hasabnis 49 n.o, D Vaidya 25; K Zanzad 2-9) lost to Vidarbha 113 for 3 in 18.2 overs (D Kasat 53 n.o, P Chauhan 24) by 7 wickets.
