'Disgusting' - Tottenham fans unhappy with Nuno Espirito Santo decision for Burnley clash

Tottenham Hotspur will continue their push for glory in the League Cup on Wednesday, when they travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley.

Spurs made it to the final of the competition last season, only to run into Manchester City and fall just short, extending their trophy drought from 2008.

The team's form has fluctuated this season and perhaps the clash with Wolves in the previous round of this competition was the best example of that.

Having led 2-0 thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele, Spurs were pegged back to 2-2 and eventually relied on a 3-2 penalty shootout win to progress into the next round.

With that in mind, it's no surprise to see Nuno Espirito Santo name a strong side for the clash with Burnley, spearheaded by Kane.

The striker has also been handed the armband by the manager with Hugo Lloris absent from the XI and it's safe to say not every supporter believes the striker should be bestowed with such an honour. That despite his status as the club's vice captain.

Kane's performances have been poor for Tottenham this season after seeing a desired move to Manchester City fall through in the summer.

The other big news from the team selection is that neither Dele Alli nor Harry Winks are part of the squad, casting doubt over their futures in north London.

It will be a big night for Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil too, as they've been handed chances to start at no. 10 and on the wing respectively.

Son Heung-min isn't in the XI, but Nuno has selected him on the bench in case Tottenham need reinforcements on what promises to be challenging night in the inclement north-west weather.
