Disgusting homophobic graffiti appears on murals in Manchester's Gay Village

Vile homophobic graffiti has appeared on two murals in Manchester's Gay Village.

Disgusting abuse was daubed over artworks on two walls just a short distance from Canal Street.

A mural at the side of the Molly House pub on Richmond Street containing depictions of World War II codebreaker Alan Turing and legendary Manchester drag queen Foo Foo Lammar was targeted.

Pictures taken today showed the words "dirty b******s" having been daubed across it, with the swear word being misspelled.

A second mural, also believed to be on Richmond Street, of drag queen Divina de Campo, who appeared in the first series of the TV show Ru Paul's Drag Race UK, was also defaced.

City centre councillor Jon-Connor Lyons, who represents the Piccadilly Ward slammed the 'cowards' responsible and said he would be speaking to police over the matter.

He said: "Absolutely disgusted to hear that someone has vandalised our Gay Village with homophobic language, which is specifically targeting our LGBTQ+ community.

"They are nothing but cowards.

"We are a tolerant city and Mancunians won't stand for this.

"We'll be speaking with GMP."

Whilst the town hall's city centre spokesman Coun Pat Karney said: "Disgraceful!

"After all these years the battle goes on. We will get it cleaned off asap."

With the council's chief executive Joanne Roney adding: "Absolutely.we will"
