'Disgusting' dog owner shamed for leaving pet in sweltering car at Southport Flower Show

A dog owner has been shamed for leaving their dog in a sweltering car in August while they enjoyed the Southport Flower Show.

It is believed that an announcement was made over the tannoy at the popular four-day event asking for the owner of a white Citroen Berlingo to go to their car and see to their dog. The dog is said to have been in "severe distress" and needed to be taken out of the car immediately.

One person who was at the Flower Show shared the news in a local Facebook group. They said: "Couldn't believe today, we were at the Flower Show when an announcement came over the tannoy.

"'If you're the owner of a white Citroen Berlingo then got to the car park NOW! Your dog is in severe distress & needs taking out of that car immediately!' When will people learn?"

People piled on, with one person commenting: "That’s horrific. That’s someone, going to an event where, presumably they intended to spend several hours, and taking their dog with them deliberately to leave in the car. It beggars belief.

"Not only is the event dog friendly, this isn’t something you do by accident. It’s not an emergency call into the Spar for a quick loaf of bread (which would still be wrong but kinda understandable). Disgusting behaviour."

Another person said: "This absolutely awful! Dogs are more than welcome in the show! So why on earth leave it in the car, I hope the owners went back and were totally shamed! I hope the poor dog was ok."
