When you think of washing machines, the first thing that springs to mind is likely to be fresh clothes and bed sheets.
What you probably don't think of, is grimy, smelly water. You may be shocked to find, then, that your washing machine might not be quite as clean as you first thought, and could be harbouring a disgusting amount of grime. Delightful.
Members of Facebook group Mums Who Clean have discovered just that, and have been sharing their findings on social media.
According to the Mirror, the mums have started to share how they've started to remove the build up of dirt and grime in their washing machines.
They started by popping a dishwasher tablet - any brand - into the machine and putting it on a hot cycle.
Within minutes, the machines were filled with dirty, brown water, that's not exactly what you want from a machine designed to clean your clothes.
Some mums have even tried throwing up to four of the tablets in their machine's, to really amp up the ante.
While the results were disgusting, the hack is brilliant.
A number of parents said they'd seen the machine fill with dirt in just five minutes - no time at all.
One user said: "Decided to try use dishwasher tablets to clean my washing machine - I am now mesmerised."
Another said she was now starting to see the shine of the drum too.
I'll definitely be giving this one a go before I put my next load in to wash.
