Police officers were spat at after responding to reports of a man making threats to staff at a luxury spa hotel.
Merseyside Police were called to Formby Hall on Southport Old Road, Formby at around 5.55pm.
They had received reports of a man making threats towards staff and residents.

No injuries were caused but the man was reportedly in possession of glass.
A 31-year-old man from Rainhill was arrested on suspicion of affray and assaulting emergency workers after two police officers were reportedly spat at. He remains in custody, police said today.
Detective Inspector Paul Gillies said: "This would have been a distressing incident to witness, and once again our officers have been victim of a disgusting assault when carrying out their duties.
"If you saw the incident or have any information, let us know as we continue to investigate.”
