Disgusted Scots litter picker finds bottles of pee and bags of human poo dumped in scenic layby

A sickened litter picker has told of finding bottles of pee and bags of human poo thrown from vehicles onto a scenic section of Scots roadway.

One volunteer who helped clean up the mess said he was 'nearly physically sick' after venturing to the A77 between Cairnryan and Stranraer.

Kerr Monteith told the Record how the scene made him 'disgusted and ashamed to be human'.

Along with the disgusting bottles of urine and crisp bags of faeces, Kerr found a number of delivery notes from logistics companies which leads him to think it is the result of drivers using the layby.

He also discovered a number of alcohol containers and red bull cans during the cleanup with two pals on Tuesday.

Kerr told the Record he thought more needed to be done educating people about litter and that the problem had gotten worse in lockdown.

He said: "Normally we are beach cleaners and remove 20 plus bags of ocean waste per clean up, along the Rhins of Galloway, Loch Ryan & Luce Bay.. we did this (clean up) as a favour!

"It’s probably one of the worst lay-bys between Cairnryan and Stranraer. However like everyone has been commenting we believe littering has increased since Covid and roadside, countrysides are becoming increasingly like rubbish tips.

"Local authorities particularly those large rural ones can’t cope with it, years of reducing budgets..

"The whole country is reliant on volunteers supporting collections.

"I dread to think what the place would look like if they stop. Quite embarrassing really and disgusting! "

Kerr posted about his finds on social media where it drew sickened and angry reactions from nature lovers.

He wrote on Facebook: "The mess that we were confronted with was nothing short of a disgrace, I’m disgusted and ashamed to be a human.

"I’m angry at people who do this, I’m utterly saddened by the complete lack of respect..

"Lorry Drivers, Van/Delivery Drivers , car drivers /passengers at what point do you think it’s ok to sh*t in a bag, box, bucket, your pants, and just throw it in to the lay-by, at which point is it ok to pee into a plastic bottle and throw it out of your vehicle...

"I was nearly physically sick.... NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO CLEAR THIS UP!

"(It is)also very worryingly seeing is it mostly lorry drivers using the lay-by is the levels of alcohol cans/bottles.. astounding!!

"And where do you even begin with the cans of red bull... ( actually I was pleased to see the usual litter as I thought at least I’m not going to catch anything...) well except the crisp bags full of human sh*** )

"I’m utterly saddened that people just don’t care, horrible, selfish, disgusting people!

"The three people that turned up did a great job.. but I can’t even be pleased about the effort! I’m too upset and still feel like I’m going to throw up."

One person praised him and his team, commenting "Well done all of you for clearing that disgusting mess up"

Meanwhile similar reports have surfaced at the scenic Loch Bradan in South Ayrshire.

Locals have reported campsites left behind, drugs and human waste.
