Disgusted residents desperate to escape rat-infested street filled with smelly rubbish

Residents on a street infamously known for its piling up of smelly rubbish are desperate to move away as rats are reportedly infesting the area.

Inhabitants of flats on the street in Doncaster said the issue has been going on for years but has never been solved.

Those living on the alleyway that links Abbott Street and Spansyke in Hexthorpe are now fed up and have urged the council to step in to sort the problem once and for all, YorkshireLive reports.

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, says she is desperate to move away as the problem has been ongoing and there seems little chance of it improving.

She said: "It's just awful.

"The whole area is just a mess really. Even the front of the houses tend to get bags of rubbish piling up.

"It smells really bad. A few months ago we all had letters through our doors saying that rats had been sighted down the alley.

"I would never have moved here if I wasn't desperate at the time.

"We have been stuck here for four years now. I'm hoping that that council will help me move somewhere else."

Despite the rubbish being cleared numerous times by the council, residents say that it is only a matter of time before it returns again.

And now residents have had enough and want the problem to be sorted.

She added: "It's been like this for a few years at least.

"The council tries their hardest to clear it away but it happens too much for them to keep up."
