Disgusted neighbours call police on mum who hung 'vile' Nazi flag in her bedroom

The Jewish neighbours of a woman who had a Nazi flag displayed in her house called counter-terror police, urging them to take action.

Neighbours of Amy Newport, a Swindon local, called the police after spotting the mum’s large flag hanging on the wall of her bedroom.

Police have warned the mum that she could be committing a "racially aggravated public order offence", as the flag can be seen from outside of her Swindon-based home.

Ms Newport had not been arrested nor charged in relation to the incident.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "Our officers gave strong words of advice to the person living there to advise that possession of the flag was not illegal, but that if it can be viewed from a public area, this could be considered a racially aggravated public order offence."

The former warehouse worker reportedly agreed to take it down after speaking with officers.

One local resident said: “You couldn’t miss the flag. It’s vile and this is such a nice area which makes it even more shocking. We’re all disgusted."

But a spokesman for the Campaign Against Antisemitism told the Daily Star that, if it happens again, then “the police must issue more than just warnings”.

The spokesman said: “It is sickening to think that there are still people in Britain who take pleasure in hanging giant Nazi banners in their homes.

“This person even apparently had the audacity to display the flag for anyone looking from outside to see.

“She vastly underestimated the common decency of her neighbours."

Ms Newport refused to comment when questioned by The Sun about the incident, although she did deny she was racist when speaking to the publication.

“I’ve got lots of flags in my home," she added.
