Disgusted Midlothian locals spot 'stinking' water spewing onto cycle path

Midlothian residents have been left concerned after spotting 'bright blue stinking water' pouring onto a cycle path.

Residents have complained about the horrid smell coming from the leak - not least as the public path is used by young families with children.

Locals say sludge from the pipe is being left on the path near Edgefield Road in Loanhead - where it crosses over the Roslin to Shawfair cycle path.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, one local said: "I think it's a surface water drain at this location, although I'm not sure why surface water drains are pouring onto an active travel path.

"This isn't the first time that there has been flooding on the path from this pipe, although it's the first time we've noticed it being such a bright blue."

Midlothian Council has now dispatched a team of specialists to probe the leak. A spokesperson said: "The on-call roads supervisor went out last night and roads and environmental health investigating further today."
