Disgusted Lorraine Kelly fears deaths from 'toxic' Extinction Rebellion protests

Lorraine Kelly has slammed the Extinction Rebellion protesters who climbed on top of a train at Canning Town station.

There were chaotic scenes this morning when angry commuters pulled one on the campaigners off the roof of the Jubilee Line train before a scuffle on the floor.

After showing a clip of the shocking footage, Lorraine admitted she no longer recognises her own country.

The much-loved presenter, who called the scenes "horrendous", fears that someone is going to be killed.

Speaking ahead of the start of her show, she said: "This is horrendous isn’t it. I don’t recognise my country. What is going on? Absolutely horrible.

"People just trying to get to work for goodness sake. On the train which is electric anyway. I just don’t understand. It doesn’t make any sense to me."

Lorraine admitted she does understand where the protesters are coming from but criticised their methods.

The climate change protesters were trying to paralyse the London Underground network by halting the Jubilee Line and unfurling a banner which read: "Business as usual = death".

Lorraine said: "I think all of us have sympathy people for what they’re trying to do. And then it's the way they’re going about it is just so toxic and divisive.

"Someone's going to get killed. It's absolutely nuts."

The British Transport police says four arrests have been made and there has been a strong police presence on the tube network.

Earlier on Good Morning Britain, the presenters spoke on the phone to Mahatir Pasha, who recorded the shocking footage of a protester being hauled off the top of a train.

He said: "A lot of people around were [scared]. I saw one lady crying. She was visibly traumatised. A lot of people round there were shocked."
