Disgust as school for blind children burgled four times in a month

A school for blind children has been targeted by burglars four times within the space of a month.

St Vincent's School on Yew Tree Lane, West Derby, which specialises in sensory impairment and other disabilities, was last burgled overnight between Thursday and Friday last week (April 10).

Merseyside Police sent a letter to residents in the are urging them to be vigilant.

It said: "Between the 9th April and Friday 10th April, St Vincent's School for the blind and partially sighted has recently been subjected to a burglary.

"Unfortunately this is the fourth burglary in four weeks at the school. It is important that you ensure your house is as secure as possible."

The letters have included a "personal home security assessment form" and urge residents to report suspicious activity.

News of the burglaries sparked disgust online.

Posting on Facebook, Stephen Anderson said: "As a former student there, this sickens me.

"The school already runs a very tight ship when it comes to what it can afford to pay out. It is also, and I mean this point with great respect, has a lot of vulnerable people who rely on the service they provide and the resources they have to offer.

So as not to say anything that would be grossly out of order, I am disgusted by this and feel physically ill that people would sink as low as this."

Holly Mitchell added: "What is this world coming to? Why would anybody do such disgusting things? This was the school I went to."

Anyone with any information about the burglary should call Merseyside Police on 101 or report it via the social media desk @MerPolCC, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
