Residents have aired their fury after an honesty box raising money for cancer research was stolen.
Every spring, a good Samaritan in Church Lane in Ashton on Mersey sets out bedding plants for the community in an effort to raise money for a chosen charity. This year, the family were hoping to raise money in aid of breast cancer research .
But residents in the area now report that the honesty box of donations was taken.

Last week, the slate outside the charitable home was marked by a frown face drawn on and a message reading: “£33.86 raised [for] breast cancer research up until the honesty box was taken. Sad but true.”
Local resident Rob noticed the sign while out walking his dogs and says he is ‘disgusted’. “The homeowner puts bedding plants out this time every year along with an honesty box and uses chalk and a slate to update the community on how much they have raised,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“Hopefully the individuals responsible read this and understand the consequences of their actions and do something good.
“Life's too short, this small gesture made every year by the home always makes me feel better about life and has a wider positive impact than the actual money raised.”
Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
