Disgust after Bank Holiday 'carnage' leaves cans and bottles strewn across Castle Wharf near Nottingham Canal

Shocking footage has revealed a large amount of rubbish left near Nottingham Canal which has been described as an 'absolute disgrace'.

Carrier bags, broken glass and empty cans and beer bottles were seen opposite Nottingham Magistrates' Court this morning.

Lisa Dykes, 52, of Southcliffe Road, Carlton, a facilities assistant, spotted the mess after arriving at work on Monday morning, April 22.

"I have worked for four years in Castle Wharf (in Canal Street). I have never seen such carnage in my life," she said.

"You would expect it for Notting Hill Carnival but not for a bank holiday (in Nottingham).

"People were walking past and saying how wrong it was.

"There were broken bottles and glass everywhere. It's where people could walk.

"Anyone could have fallen, tripped or anything and cut themselves. It was unbelievable."

She did say the mess had been cleaned up but described the debris as an "absolute disgrace".

The mess was spotted between The Waterfront and Via Fossa bars.

After discovering the mess, she added: "I just stopped dead in utter shock. It was unbelievable. I have never seen anything like it.

"This morning you would have thought it was a council tip - it resembled a dump."
