Disgruntled man urges people to 'avoid' Toby Carvery after wife got £85 parking fine

A frustrated husband has urged people to "avoid" Toby Carvery after his wife received a parking fine. The man left a one star review of the carvery chain following the £85 fine.

John G has told others to "avoid the establishment" after writing about the experience on review site TripAdvisor. He said his wife was enjoying an afternoon with friends at the Hall Green restaurant in Birmingham.

The Mirror reports John's wife was later given a fine. He said: "Ten days later, she has been presented with an £85 parking fine. Please beware of this and avoid this establishment."

The pub, which underwent a major refurbishment earlier this year, responded to the review. Its assistant manager wrote: "We're disappointed to hear of the negative experience you had at our location.

"The car parking is not in place to catch any of our guests out, it's just in place for anyone who does unfortunately misuse it. We will certainly do everything we can to help you with this situation and if paying in a group we would be able to find the bill on the system or even check our CCTV footage.

"Please kindly ask your wife to pop into us with the letter of the fine and we can get this sorted for your wife. Kind regards Scott AM." Despite the negative experience in this instance, scores of others have left positive reviews about the establishment.

One diner posted: "The food was delicious and hot, it was a great atmosphere and Fred was a prompt, polite waitress! Definitely coming back again!" Another customer said: "Service was 5 star. I even asked for fresh mash and they sorted it straight away! Thank you to Fred who was our server was the most attentive and chatty. Thank you made our business meeting not as boring."

A different customer added: "Had a lovely lunch today. Fred was exceptional, really made us feel welcome, was great with my three-year-old and really helped me by getting my drink refill while I was seeing to my daughter's dinner.

"The beef dripping potatoes were amazing too. Thank you for great service." Last month there was uproar on Twitter after Toby Carvery axed lamb roasts on Sundays due to "supply issues".

The restaurant chain is famous for its carvery roast, which start from £11.99 on Sundays or £7.49 in the week. But fans have vowed not to visit again after Toby Carvery confirmed in a series of replies on social media that lamb is no longer available every week.

Toby Carvery now lists turkey, beef and gammon as its Sunday carvery options online. One customer said: “Hope the rumour I have not heard is true... No more lamb on a Sunday??!!!!! I won't be coming back now as it's the lamb we want... Sad times."
