'Disgraceful' man choked taxi driver after friend was sick in his car

A "disgraceful" man choked a taxi driver following a row over paying a fee to cover his friend being sick in the car.

The suspect got a taxi with a woman to Grove Street, near Falkner Square, Liverpool at around 12.15am on Friday, July 16.

It is believed the woman was sick in the taxi, causing an argument between the driver and the man over the cleaning fee, Liverpool Echo reports.

According to police, the suspect proceeded to assault the driver by choking him, leaving him with injuries to his neck and face.

The man and woman made off from the scene following the incident.

The driver was left extremely shaken by the incident.

An investigation is underway and detectives have now issued images of a man they wish to trace.

Detective Inspector Phil Ryan said: "To assault someone in this manner simply for doing their job is disgraceful and we are doing all we can to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.

"Enquiries have been carried out to identify the male in the images as we believed he has information which is vital to our investigation.

"I would appeal to anyone who recognises the man or knows of his whereabouts to contact us."

Police have asked anyone with information about the man in the picture to contact them social media via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police Contact Centre with reference 21000494647.

Alternatively can also call 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or via their online form at: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information.
