'Disgraceful' dad drove high on drugs with kids crouched in footwell

Four children were found travelling unsafely in a van being driven by a suspected drug driver.

Merseyside Police pulled over the white transit van, on the afternoon of Sunday, June 12, after spotting the driver not wearing a seatbelt. After stopping the van, officers found two children crouched down in the front footwell.

Another two children were then found in the back of the van, without any seat belts. The roads policing team then drug tested the driver and report that he tested positive for cannabis and was arrested.

Branding the incident as 'disgraceful parenting' an officer uploaded a picture of the white transit van on Twitter. A spokesperson from the roads policing team said: "Vehicle sighted with the driver not wearing a seatbelt. On stopping it, two young children found crouched down in the front footwell and another two children unrestrained in the rear.

"Driver also positive for cannabis and was arrested. Disgraceful parenting." Earlier that day, three children were found sleeping on a mattress in the back of a van being driven by a suspected drug driver.

Police pulled the van over on the M6 in the early hours of Sunday after they said it was seen speeding on the motorway. The driver was found to be under the influence of cannabis by officers at the scene, police said.

Following the positive drugs test, a search was carried out of the man's van where three children were found sleeping on a mattress inside. Police said the children were taken to a place of safety and the driver was arrested.
