'Disgraceful!' - Arsenal fans' fury after Ben Godfrey red card VAR check on Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal fans were left furious during the first half of their Monday night clash with Everton after Ben Godfrey was left unpunished after appearing to stamp on Takehiro Tomiyasu's face.

Granit Xhaka was recalled to the squad for the occasion while Emile Smith Rowe missed out entirely. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was dropped to the bench in favour of Alexandre Lacazette as well.

Mikel Arteta's men were looking to bounce back to winning ways following their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United on Thursday night but the first half at Goodison Park brought little in the way of real quality until Martin Odegaard popped up in injury time.

Some neat interplay eventually found Kieran Tierney on the left-wing. The Scotland international found Odegaard perfectly and the attacking-midfielder made no mistake.

But the biggest talking point arguably came 15 minutes earlier.

With just under half-an-hour played in the match, a determined tackle from Tomiyasu saw Ben Godfrey robbed of the ball. But with the Arsenal right-back left on the ground, Godfrey kept going, appearing to stamp on his opponent's face.

A VAR check took place but Mike Dean chose to take no further action, despite Tomiyasu showing the noticeable mark on his chin to the referee.

While it may not have been entirely deliberate, it certainly looked like it could have been avoided.

Unsurprisingly the decision did not go down well online at all...
