Disgraced Tory Jacob Rees-Mogg comes out of hiding to vote after Grenfell fiasco

Disgraced Tory Jacob Rees-Mogg has broken cover to vote for himself in today's election.

Mr Rees-Mogg is under threat in his North East Somerset seat after the Liberal Democrats put the out-of-touch figure in their sights.

The Tory toff disappeared from the Conservatives national campaign after appearing to suggest he was smarter that the people who died in the Grenfell tower tragedy.

Jacob Rees-Mogg stayed away from the Tory election manifesto launch and it looks like he has been sidelined from the Tory campaign.

He infamously used a live radio interview to suggest victims of the Grenfell Tower inferno could have been saved if they had used “common sense” and fled the blazing tower block when fire ripped through it in June 2017, killing 72 people.

That came after the posh Tory was caught lounging on Parliament's green leather benches during a crunch debate, infuriating Opposition MPs and TV viewers.

Multi-millionaire Old Etonian Mr Rees-Mogg was even impossible to track down when the Mirror sent our own reporter to find him in his seat.

Quizzed earlier in the campaign Boris Johnson refused to back Mr Rees-Mogg.

Earlier on LBC Nick Ferrari asked Mr Johnson where "Moggie" is - referring to Jacob Rees-Mogg.

On the first reference, Mr Johnson said Mr Rees-Mogg was "campaigning actively around the country".

Asked if he spoke to Mr Rees-Mogg about his comments on Grenfell, Mr Johnson said: "I'm not going to go into my conversations with colleagues."

On whether he will appoint Mr Rees-Mogg in his cabinet following the election, Mr Johnson said: "I'm not going to get into measuring the curtains-type conversations."
