Disgraced police officer, Merseyside Netflix filming locations and Boris Johnson update

Good morning, these are the latest ECHO headlines today.

Vulnerable people 'disgusted' and 'embarrassed' by photos taken by disgraced PC

Victims of a disgraced police officer felt “disgusted” and “embarrassed” when they were told he had taken pictures of them while they were in vulnerable situations.

PC Ryan Connolly photographed people detained under the Mental Health Act and while they were being observed in hospital.

His personal mobile phone was also found to contain depraved images including content that was racist and homophobic.

An investigation found he had breached multiple professional standards over the course of several years.

Images and video recovered on his personal mobile phone contained a reference to the Ku Klux Klan, as well as distressing and obscene references to black, Muslim, gay and disabled people which are too vile for the ECHO to repeat.

Netflix Stay Close series features iconic Merseyside landmarks

A Netflix series released last week was filmed across Merseyside and the North West and eagle-eyed viewers noticed certain landmarks.

The Harlan Coben drama Stay Close brings a star-studded cast to the screens of living rooms around the country as the series features a heavy Merseyside presence during the eight episodes.

Coben's original book was originally based in Atlantic City, with the series' creators taking a North West spin on the literature-based show.

The series features stars such as James Nesbitt and Jo Joyner as detectives, Richard Armitage as Megan's ex, Ray, and Eddie Izzard as pro-bono lawyer, Harry.

The hit series features countless scenes in St Helens, Runcorn and Widnes, and Formby.

When to expect Boris Johnson's next announcement as PM issues NHS warning

Boris Johnson has held regular briefings at Downing Street to keep the nation updated since the emergence of the Omicron variant.

The Prime Minister was reportedly considering the reintroduction of " step two " regulations after the festive period.

However, the government decided against introducing tougher measures before the New Year despite the number of positive cases reaching record highs.

Mr Johnson said: "I think we’ve got to recognise that the pressure on our NHS, on our hospitals, is going to be considerable in the the next couple of weeks, and maybe more."

He issued the update during a visit to a vaccination centre and appeared to rule out going beyond the Plan B restrictions already in place.
