Sarah Goodes directs the Australian premiere of Disgraced, the Pulitzer prize–winning play from Pakistani–American writer Ayad Akhtar. Akhtar’s debut piece explores identity, faith and and justice: subjects that took him a decade to tackle.
Hotshot corporate lawyer Amir and his artist wife Emily live together in New York’s Upper East Side. Amir is about to be promoted, but to get there he has hidden his faith and Pakistani origins.
One evening, the couple host a dinner party for Amir’s colleague and her artist husband. With so much in common, the evening begins well, but it’s not long before conversation descends into a tense battle about race, religion and prejudice.
Sachin Joab, Paula Arundell, Glenn Hazeldine and Sophie Ross star in the Sydney Theatre Company play, which will tour to Wollongong, Parramatta and Canberra.
