Disgrace as OAP robbed of £90 by thief pretending to be nurse carrying out COVID-19 test

A callous thief stole £90 from a pensioner's purse after pretending to be a nurse at her home in Blantyre.

The woman claimed to be from the 85-year-old's GP surgery and was there to carry out a COVID-19 test on Saturday, May 8.

She took a swab from the OAP's nose and mouth with a cotton bud before asking for a urine sample after the pensioner told her of a bladder issue.

Having gone to the bathroom, the OAP woman came downstairs to discover £90 was missing from her purse - she then contacted police.

Police, along with South Lanarkshire Council, have posted an appeal to trace the thief.

She is described as female and of medium build. She was wearing black glasses, grey hat, black jacket and trousers.

The incident took place between 8am and 9am on Saturday.

A spokesman for the police told Lanarkshire Live : "If you have any information to provide, please call 101 quoting incident number "2335 of 08/05/21".

"If you'd like to remain anonymous, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org."

The pensioner's GP has confirmed that no visit had been arranged.
