Discover Namibia's Untouched Frontiers

Namibia - Aerial of Dunes Martin Harvey

One of Africa’s most enigmatic countries, Namibia is both desolate and beautiful. Its plains beckon the explorer, the adventurer and the photographer, all keen to capture its soul. Whether you’re visiting for a bucket list experience, a romantic escape, or just wishing to conquer its magic, there’s something for you here, a place where scenery is other-worldly and wild animals reign supreme. The towns of Swakopmund and Luderitz and the capital, Windhoek, all have their own special charm, but it’ the great outdoors, the no-man’s lands of the Skeleton Coast – Kaokoland, Sossusvlei with its legendary dunes and Etosha, the third largest game reserve on the African continent – that create a stir in the hearts of the wanderer. And it is in some of these extraordinary places that three distinctive lodges are putting Namibia center stage.

The Skeleton Coast – A Haven For Photographers

Namibia defines itself by its unique and very different landscapes, sometimes great distances apart, each alluring and extraordinary, each boasting natural beauty that is unique and special. One of these areas is the Skeleton Coast, a deserted stretch of nothingness that is home to remnants of ships that lost their way at sea. This 975-mile stretch of coastline that fringes Namibia’s northern Atlantic coast is the place where the desolate Namib Desert meets the sea. Keeping the shipwrecks in their mind’s eye, innovative hoteliers have created Shipwreck Lodge. With a rugged remote setting that is paradise for photographers, this luxury retreat offers an unmatched safari experience in one of Africa’s most remarkable locations.

Kaokoland – An Adventurer’s Playground

Situated in north-west Namibia, Kaokoland is a wild, remote area, famous for its towering mountains, sand dunes and huge expanse of desert. It’s home to the nomadic Himba and Herero tribes, whose settlements are dotted here, as well as various forms of wildlife that have adapted to the desert terrain, including elephants, lions and giraffes. This is a true no-man’s-land, an area discovered by few people, which is what makes it so exciting. The Hoanib River bed in Kaokoland is one the few waterways in Namibia; it floods once a year, resulting in a shock of lush greenery. This is where Hoanib Valley Camp is located, set on a craggy hillside overlooking the plains. It’s situated in the Sesfontein Conservancy, which is a partnership between local communities and the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, the only Africa-wide giraffe conservation organization in the world.

Naankuse

Situated close to Windhoek, your entry point into Namibia, this sumptuous spot in the midst of the Naankuse Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary overlooks endless plains. The area offers a taste of the wilds that is relatively unmatched in this other-worldly country, where deserted plains and simplicity are the order of the day and nature reigns supreme. Staying in this breathtaking setting next to the reserve at the exceptional lodge, Omaanda, offers guests an opportunity to explore at leisure and view a variety of wild animals including cheetah, leopard, lion, rhino, elephant, zebra and wild dogs. These animals were all released into the wild by the wildlife sanctuary in the hope that one day they can be released into national parks within the country.
