Discover Fleet Street's depraved history

For those people who want to know about the history of British national newspapers, Matthew Green is planning to lead a series of tours of Fleet Street during the Olympics period.

Green, a historian with a special interest in what he calls "one London's most historic and depraved thoroughfares", will stage the tours on dates between 27 July and 12 August.

They will feature actors, musicians, antique newspapers and other interactive elements. According to his website this might well involve "the opportunity to throw tomatoes at slanderous journalists in our pop-up stocks." Phone hackers beware!

Green, who has previously presented tours for The Guardian, is due to publish a pamphlet, The lost world of the London coffeehouse, through the Idler Academy next month.

Tickets for the 90-minute Fleet Street tours cost £14 for individuals or £12 for two or more people. Tickets can be booked via the Unreal City audio website.
