Discord has launched a new way for users to unlock digital rewards, where you will not require a credit card. The platform today announced Discord Orbs, a new type of in-app currency that users can earn by completing Quests on the desktop app.
Orbs can be redeemed in the Shop for cosmetic items, profile badges, and even 3-day Nitro credits. Unlike traditional transactions, Orbs are earned, not bought, which makes it a user-friendly update for those who want customisations without spending real money.
How Does Discord Orbs Work?
To earn Discord Orbs, you will have to complete Quests available under the “Compass” tab on the desktop. Once you complete a Quest, hit “Claim Reward” to collect your Orbs. Some of the initial rewards include avatar decorations and profile effects, with select Quests now offering Orbs alongside other in-game perks. Apart from that, Quests rotate regularly, so the list of available missions and rewards is expected to change over time.
What You Can Get with Orbs?
Collected Orbs can be spent in a new “Orbs Exclusive” section in the Shop. This tab includes items like:
- Orbs-themed profile items
- Avatar decorations
- Animated nameplates
- Profile effects
- Nitro (3-day credit)
- An exclusive Orb profile badge
While all these rewards can be unlocked using just Orbs, with no payment method needed. It’s important to keep in mind that there are a few restrictions, for example, Orbs can’t be used for partner-branded items, Nitro gifts to others, recurring Nitro plans, or Server Boosts.
Another interesting aspect is that Orbs don’t expire, so you can save up and redeem them whenever you find something worth grabbing.
