NEW DELHI: Deepti Sharma played an outstanding unbeaten innings, scoring fifty runs, but the disciplined bowling performance by Delhi Capitals limited UP Warriorz to a below-par total of 138 for 8 in their Women's Premier League (WPL) match on Friday.
Deepti, showcasing her good form and promoted to the number three spot, anchored the Warriorz innings with a score of 59 off 48 balls, featuring six boundaries and a six. Unfortunately, once skipper Alyssa Healy (29) departed, she couldn't find a suitable partner to complement her efforts.
Titas Sadhu (2/23) provided the early breakthrough for the home team by dismissing opener Kiran Navgire for 5. Healy and Deepti then formed a 46-run partnership for the second wicket, collecting 44 runs off the powerplay and maintaining a brisk scoring rate.
The dismissal of Healy, courtesy of off-spinner Alice Capsey (1/5), triggered a batting collapse for UP Warriorz. Tahlia Mcgrath (3) fell victim to Arundhati Reddy (1/15), but Deepti continued to fight, scoring boundaries off Annabel Sutherland and Jess Jonassen.
However, as wickets fell at regular intervals, UP's innings unraveled. Grace Harris (14) got a reprieve when DC skipper Meg Lanning dropped her in the 14th over, but she couldn't capitalize on it and fell to a delivery from Radha Yadhav shortly after.
The DC bowlers, led by Titas Sadhu and Radha Yadav, continued to strike at regular intervals, restricting UP Warriorz and drying up the boundaries. Sadhu claimed the wicket of Shweta Sehrawat (4), while Radha Yadav accounted for Poonam Khemnar (1).
