Disappointing weekend for Bristol City’s stars on international duty

While most of the Bristol City players are enjoying their holidays in glamorous locations around the world there are some Robins who are still clocking in for their international teams.

However the likes of Callum O’Dowda, Bailey Wright and the man everyone hopes will be at Ashton Gate next season Tomas Kalas, will be forgiven for wishing they were on the beach already as well after a disappointing weekend.

Midfielder O’Dowda was an unused substitute as the Republic of Ireland drew 1-1 with Denmark in their Euro 2020 qualifier.

Shane Duffy scored with a header in the 85th minute to claim a point for the Irish in Copenhagen.

Danish substitute Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had put Denmark ahead with a strike in the 76th-minute.

The Republic of Ireland remain top of Pool D.

Robins defender Bailey Wright was in action for an experimental Australian side but the Caltex Socceroos went down 1-0 to Korea Republic in Friday evening’s international friendly, with Hwang Ui-jo scoring the only goal of the game.

Chelsea defender Kalas, who spent the season on loan at Bristol City and is understood to be a transfer target for the club this summer, also had to watch the action from the bench on Friday night as his Czech Republic side beat Bulgaria 2-1 in Prague in the Euro 2020 qualifier thanks to two goals from Patrik Schick.

The Czech Republic now sit second in Pool A, behind England.
