Jordan Spieth had the worst showing of his young career in the Fort Worth Invitational at Colonial.
This is a tournament he's won once, finished second twice and had never posted worse than tied-14th in five events. Until Sunday.
Spieth played all right with a 2-under 68 on Sunday and finished the tournament at 5-under, tied for 32nd. Even though that's not the result Spieth expected going into it, he isn't leaving Fort Worth, Texas discouraged.
"I made progress this week," Spieth said. "Each week is getting a little better. I knew starting the year out that it was going to take a little time. I'm being patient with it.
"I think good things are about to come. I feel a good run coming for the second half of the season."
Spieth hasn't had a top-10 finish in a tournament since a third at the Masters in early April. He missed the cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, tied for 41st at the Players and tied for 21st last week at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
But Spieth feels his game is improving each time out. He mentioned better wedges and putting this week at Colonial.
He also made just one bogey on Sunday, spraying a 3-wood into the right hazard on the par-5 11th.
"I'm getting into where I'm not making bogeys," Spieth said. "The not making bogeys is great and soon I'll get back to the five, six birdies a round and shoot some low rounds.
"I know it's right around the corner."
