Disappointed staff at brain injury facility won't get £500 thank you

Hard-working staff at a neurodisability centre in Newmains will not be getting a £500 thank you payment for their work during the pandemic.

Management at the Murdostoun Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre had attempted to see if staff were entitled to the bonus.

However, the appeal was dismissed by the Scottish Government.

One Murdostoun Castle source said: “I think most of us feel a bit let down. We have emailed our MSP Clare Adamson and also spoken to UNISON.

“The Huntercombe Group, which runs the centre, have been very supportive but their hands are tied.”

The Scottish Government announced in December that all health and social care staff would receive the bonus as a thank-you for their hard work during the pandemic.

Holyrood stated more than 400,000 people were eligible for the £500 “thank you payment” – including those working for private firms.

A Scottish Government spokesperson confirmed its decision with a response.

It states: “The Scottish Government is very grateful for hard work and dedication of all staff working patient-facing roles.

“The £500 payment relates to staff directly covered by NHS payment and remuneration arrangements and is not being extended to staff working in private organisations.”
